Brian's Story

Let me introduce myself. My name is Brian Simuro and I am the founder of the non-profit organization, "Cops Care Cancer Foundation". I'm also a Police Officer for the City of San Jose and more importantly, a cancer survivor.

In 1991, I was a sophomore at Roseville High School when I was diagnosed with stage III Hodgkin's disease (A form of Lymphoma cancer). Due to the advanced stage of my disease, I was immediately referred to the Lucile Packard Children's hospital at Stanford. I became a patient of Dr. Michael Link and began my two year battle with the disease. I underwent high doses of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for nearly the entire two years. As of today, I have been in remission for twelve years.

My family is from a small town north of Sacramento called Rocklin. It is about three hours away from Stanford. This made my daily treatments and doctor appointments very difficult on my family both financially and emotionally. My medical bills began to add up (well over a million dollars) and what was not covered by insurance came out of my parent's pocket. As the months rolled by, it became obvious that my family was going to need some financial assistance. My parents sought support from the Social Services department of the hospital. Through their generous donations, my family was reimbursed for some of the costs associated with my treatments, travel expenses, and long term housing.

If it had not been for the generosity of the hospital's donors, the outcome of my life may have been much different. My family may have found themselves in some financial hardship and I would have been denied the life saving treatments I received. I owe my life to all of the Doctors, Nurses, and every single person who has donated money to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.

Perry Family Story

I would like to thank you and all of the other volunteers for putting on such a wonderful Fantasy Flight Event for the kids. Spencer once again had a blast. This is his second year attending this terrific event and he talked about it for days after it was over.

I am amazed with the generosity of your Foundation. Watching all of those children participate in the fun, crafts, games and entertainment you provided at Moffett Field was heartwarming. Seeing their faces when Santa came out of the helicopter was priceless. I would invite anyone to come and watch the joy the kids get when they attend these events that you organize and fund, especially after all the pain and distress they have been through in their lives. I'm not sure how you knew the perfect presents to give these kids, but you sure got it right with Spencer he loved his gifts and from the looks of the other kids they were pretty happy with their gifts too.

Again, if there is anything I can do to help with the Cops Care Cancer Foundation please don't hesitate to ask me.

As a mom, the thrill you brought to Spencer is something that I am very grateful for and will remember forever.

Seepersad Family Story

We (The Seepersad family) would like to thank you and the wonderful volunteers and sponsors who put together the lovely outing on Saturday. The Christmas Fantasy flight was a lovely occasion and I must say that Jonathan and his little sister really enjoyed themselves. It was really nice to see the kids so carefree and full of life. Of course being big kids ourselves, my husband and I had plenty of fun as well. You really helped to brighten up our Christmas.
